What is COD?

The concept of the delivery agent collects the payment of goods instead of the shipper at the time of delivery is known as Cash on Delivery (COD) or Payment on Delivery (POD) in Japan.

What is e-Collect?

For the year 2007, the Sagawa Express COD service «e-Collect» handled approx. JPY1123 billion (over US$11 billion) in payments, making the «e-Collect» service the largest COD service in Japan.

Example operational flow for a direct order retail into Japan

1.	Door to Door Transportation : Shipments will be despatched through the local partner of Sagawa Global Logistics group.
2.	International Transportation : Export and Transportation to Japan will be handled through the local partner of Sagawa.
3.	Japan Delivery : Delivery within Japan will be by Sagawa Express.
4.	Payment On Delivery : The Sagawa Express delivery agent will collect the charges payable (cost of goods, shipping costs, Duties & Taxes) at the consignee's place before completing delivery.
5.	Transfer of Payments : Sagawa Financial Services will transfer the payments to the vendor's Japan based distributor.

■Requirements for the use of the service

The vendor must have an office in Japan with a registered bank account at a Japan based bank to which funds can be transferred.
